Domitilla Catacomb
Domitilla Catacomb is one of the largest and the most ancient underground cemeteries in Rome, part of a property then belonged to Flavia Domitilla going back to the year 120 A.D. The frescos preserved underground in this Catacomb demonstrate the Faith of the first century Christians in Rome.
This is the only Catacomb in Rome which has an underground Basilica dedicated to the Holy Martyrs Nereo and Achilleo, along with Saint Petronilla, daughter of St. Peter. The Divine Word Missionaries (Societas Verbi Divini - SVD), are the custodians of Domitilla Catacomb.
This Missionary Religious Congregation, of both Brothers and Priests, was founded in 1875 by St. Arnold Janssen in Steylin Holland. These missionaries live and work in international and multicultural communities, witnessing to the Good News in various pastoral and cultural contexts. This Congregation looks after the daily functioning of this historic and sacred centre for the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology.

Our Services
In the Basilica underneath, as well as in the chapels underground in the Catacomb, Holy Eucharist can be celebrated or other prayers conducted. When a group registers a visit, it is enough to mention whether it includes a Holy Mass/prayer service. The Basilica can contain at one time about 300 persons for a celebration.
Visiting Hours:
From Monday to Sunday:
from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and
from 14:00 p.m. to 17:00 p.m.
Tuesday CLOSED
(The last guided tour begins 30 minutes before the closure, both in the morning and in the afternoon)
The Entry Tickets:
An entry ticket for an
adult is: 10,00 €
For children between the age of 5 to 15 and for student groups from schools/colleges accompanied by teachers,ticket costs: 7,00 €
(with a recommendation letter and a list of the students). The admission fee includes a guided tour in the Catacomb and a free visit to the museum.
