The Divine Word Missionaries (Societas Verb iDivini - SVD), administer the Domitilla Catacomb for the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology.
This Missionary Religious Congregation, of both Brothers and Priests, founded in 1875 by St. Arnold Janssen in Steyl in Holland, from different countries and cultural backgrounds live and work in international and multicultural communities, witnessing to the Good News.
The primary goal of the Congregation is to proclaim the Good News where the gospel has not yet been announced or developed sufficiently, and where the local church is in need of help.
In the Basilica underneath, as well as in the chapels underground in the Catacomb, Holy Eucharist can be celebrated or other prayers conducted. When a group registers a visit, it is enough to mention whether it includes a Holy Mass/prayer service. The Basilica can contain at one time about 300 persons for a celebration.
